Happy Friday, Cypress! 🌲
Last Friday’s cold front lasted about a week. Saturday is back up to 87, so the hoodie goes back in the closet and somebody’s full-body costume plan gets a second look. We found a few trunk-or-treats for the week ahead, a pink night out at the Boardwalk tonight, and an update from a Cypress hospital you’ll be glad to know about before you ever need it.
The less fun part: Mortgage rates crossed 7% this month, and Houston home sales noticed. Also, the clocks fall back on Halloween night, which means a house full of candy-powered kids up an hour early Sunday. Plan accordingly.
Have a great weekend, Cypress!
Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

MEET TOBY (AND HIS GOOFY GRIN)! 💙 This 5½-year-old, 18-pound Corgi mix was found abandoned, and he’s been waiting in foster ever since. He’s house-trained, loves water, squeaky toys, and a good cuddle, and he does great with kids and cats. He’d be happiest as the only dog in the house. Fair warning: he snores.
Don’t forget to pick him up some treats 🐶
🌲 It’s Friday. Here are some suggestions:

What’s New In Cypress 🌲
🌲 Houston Methodist Cypress opened a dialysis center and eight more ICU beds
Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, 24500 Northwest Freeway, opened an inpatient dialysis center on its fifth floor and added eight intensive care beds, bringing its ICU to 18, the hospital announced Oct. 20. Patients admitted there who need dialysis can now get it in the same building. Houston Methodist says it can open eight more ICU beds, for 26 total, as demand grows.
It’s the first piece of the expansion announced in March: 64 medical-surgical beds, 16 ICU beds, six operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, and 145 new jobs. The state filing for the interior work runs through March 2027, and the hospital hasn’t said when the rest opens. → What’s in the expansion, and what opens next

🌲 Mortgage rates passed 7%, and Houston home sales slowed
The average 30-year rate reached 7.40% by the second week of October, per Freddie Mac data cited by the Houston Association of Realtors. Greater Houston single-family sales fell 5.7% in September compared with a year earlier, to 7,030 homes, and pending sales dropped 11.6%.
Prices barely moved. The median was $325,000, down $990. What changed is supply: 5.5 months of inventory, up from 5.1, and homes sat 58 days on average. On a median-priced home with 20% down, the monthly payment is up about $83 from a year ago. Buyers have more choices and more room to negotiate. Sellers, price it right the first time. → Read HAR’s September report
🌲 The clocks fall back on Halloween night
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, so set the clocks back an hour before bed on Halloween. On paper, that’s an extra hour of sleep. In practice, it’s an extra hour of a sugared-up 6-year-old asking for breakfast.
Sunset also moves an hour earlier starting Sunday, so the walk home from the bus stop gets dark fast next week. Reflective backpacks and a flashlight in the car aren’t a bad idea. → NHTSA’s Halloween safety tips
