What we know

The store is slated for 9715 Towne Lake Parkway, with a projected December 1, 2025 completion date. (Mark your calendars. Actually, maybe pencil it in — more on that in a sec.)

The paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirms a 15,021-square-foot build valued at around $2.5 million (although it was estimated cost to build was $900,000 since the building was already built.) On top of that, Trader Joe’s has already secured a wine-only package store permit from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Translation: yes, the famous “Two-Buck Chuck” and other wine staples should be on the shelves.

Developers at Caldwell Companies, who are behind the Towne Lake project, say construction is on track.

Could it open sooner?

Here’s where it gets interesting.

While the official registration paperwork says December 1, locals are buzzing that the date might just be a conservative placeholder. A recent photo shared in a Cypress Facebook group shows the store looking almost ready-to-go (like, “throw a sign on it and stock the shelves” ready). Naturally, this has people speculating that doors could open much sooner.

Now, Trader Joe’s hasn’t confirmed anything earlier — but if history tells us anything (remember how fast the Sugar Land store wrapped up?), we might be browsing those aisles well before the holiday season officially kicks off.

Trader Joe’s Cypress Experiences Delays…

As of December 4th, Trader Joe’s has yet to open its doors and some say it could be because of some storm damage. A few days prior to Thanksgiving Cypress Experienced quite the windfall with a Tornado taking out several homes on the Towne Lake side of Cypress.

And you know what else is on that side? You guessed it, Trader Joe’s. Now we haven’t confirmed that this was the case but, like many holiday delays, the closer we get to the end of the year the less likely we are to see movement.

So late December? Maybe. Stay tuned.

In case you missed it

Trader Joe’s has been steadily creeping into more corners of the Houston metro:

  • Last fall, they opened a new store in Sugar Land, repurposing a 15,467-square-foot former Sprouts.

  • A Kingwood store is in the works, with an interior buildout underway right now.

  • And Cypress? Well, it’s about to finally join the party.

Why people are excited

For the uninitiated (who are you, even?), Trader Joe’s is known for its private-label gems you won’t find anywhere else. Fan favorites include:

  • Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips (TJ’s answer to Takis)

  • Mandarin Orange Chicken (freezer MVP)

  • Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups (dangerously snackable)

  • Peanut Butter Filled Pretzel Nuggets (a whole personality)

  • Unexpected Cheddar (exactly what the name implies)

  • Soy Chorizo (veggie-friendly but beloved by carnivores, too)

And of course, expect the staples: fresh produce, bakery finds, frozen meals, beer, wine, flowers, and plants.

Location details

  • Address: 9715 Towne Lake Parkway, Cypress, TX

  • Opening date: late December , 2025 (but maybe sooner…)

This will be the first Trader Joe’s in Cypress, which means no more trekking to Houston, The Woodlands, or Sugar Land for your Everything But The Bagel seasoning fix.
