Happy Tuesday, Cypress! 🌲

We’re halfway through fall break. If tonight’s dinner plan is “whatever’s easiest,” we found a few spots where kids eat free. We’re not judging. And a dessert shop just gave us a date worth circling. Also, movie night on Fry Road is about to get a lot fancier.

The less fun part: Some county cameras just went dark, and commissioners want answers Thursday. Plus, early voting opens Monday, the same day kids go back.

Have a great week, Cypress!

Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

🐾 Adopt Spotlight

MOOSE NEEDS A HOME (AND A BUDDY TO WRESTLE)! 💙 This 15-week-old, 20-pound Shepherd mix has officially entered his charming gremlin era. He's feisty, bossy, and fearless, and he treats every boundary as more of a suggestion. His name honors another Moose his case manager rushed to the ER, one who never got his happy ending. This Moose gets that chance. He'll grow into a big Shepherd, so he needs a family ready for training and structure, a securely fenced yard (required), and ideally a playful dog to burn off energy with.

Don’t forget to pick him up some treats 🐶

What’s New In Cypress 🌲

🌲 Movie night on Fry Road is getting an IMAX

Star Cinema Grill plans to open an IMAX with Laser auditorium at its Cypress theater, 8920 Fry Road, on Nov. 18, per the Houston Chronicle. The upgrade also brings heated recliners, massage seats, and Privacy Pods, the enclosed two-seat booths. The company bills it as the only dine-in IMAX in Houston.

Queso and IMAX in the same seat. We’ll allow it. Until then, Tuesdays are still $8.

🌲 Precinct 4 just turned off its Flock cameras

On Oct. 8, Commissioner Lesley Briones had every Flock camera on Harris County Precinct 4 property shut off and covered, citing residents' privacy concerns. That's 13 license plate readers and 48 security cameras across nine county parks and facilities.

However, this doesn’t affect cameras run by your HOA, your MUD, or the Sheriff's Office, which manages about 480 Flock cameras on its own. Constable Mark Herman says he's working with commissioners on one countywide policy. Commissioners Court is set to hear a full report on the county's plate readers Thursday, including what they cost, where they are, and who can see the data.

🌲 CFISD put its screen-time rules in writing

CFISD posted a new Student Technology Framework this month. The headline: no passive screen time during the school day, and no time on a device without a teaching purpose or a teacher involved. Recess and free-choice time have to include options that don’t involve a screen. Adaptive intervention software, the self-paced reading and math programs, is capped at 20 minutes a day in elementary and 30 in middle and high school. That cap doesn’t apply to research, writing, or building presentations.
