Happy Friday, Cypress! 🌲

Somebody tell the porch pumpkins: the forecast has lows in the low 60s by Monday night. It's not sweater weather yet, but it is no-longer-sweating-at-the-mailbox weather, and we'll take it. Also, a late-night cookie shop opens on 290 next week at half off, which feels personal.

The less fun part: Monday is the last day to register to vote for Nov. 3. Saturday also has a 55% chance of rain, right on top of Cy-Fest. Plan accordingly.

Have a great weekend, Cypress!

Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

MAX NEEDS A HOME (AND SOMEONE TO SMOTHER IN KISSES)! 💙 This goofy 4-year-old Pittie mix has left street life behind and is ready for a family of his own. He bunny-hops into his kennel for dinner, loves a good snuggle, and happily settles beside his foster mom while she works. He also adores the one-year-old in his foster home. Max would do best as your only dog or potentially with a female companion, as he struggles with his male foster sibling.

Don’t forget to pick him up some treats 🐶

🌲I had a scare last year, and I’m 31….

Is your mammogram on the calendar? Between work, kids, and everyone else’s appointments, your own health can slip down the list. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, give yourself a spot on the calendar. Our partner, Houston Methodist, explains when to get a mammogram, what to expect, and how to schedule online.

🌲 Lone Star College lowered its tax rate. Slightly.

On Oct. 1, the Lone Star College board unanimously approved a 2026–27 rate of $0.1058 per $100 of value, down from $0.106. On $400,000 of taxable value, that works out to about 80 cents a year. Don't spend it all in one place.

The college still expects to bring in $356.2 million, 2% more than last year, because home values went up. Your bill could still rise if your appraisal rose or you lost an exemption.

🌲 A late-night dessert shop opens on 290 next Friday

Midnight Cravingz opens Oct. 9 at 26321 Northwest Freeway, with cookies, brownies, and waffle chips topped with ice cream. It's open 6 p.m.–1 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and until midnight Sunday. Everything is 50% off grand opening weekend, per the shop's announcement.

Open until 2 a.m. on weekends, for the parents who finally got everyone to bed.

Friday: Cypress Methodist's pumpkin patch opens

The "pumpkin church" on Cypress North Houston Road opens at 10 a.m. Friday and runs through Oct. 31. Entry is free, and the draws are pumpkins, homemade pumpkin bread, and plenty of photo spots. Proceeds go to the church's youth and children's missions. Plan your visit.
