What’s New In Cypress 🌲
Thursday is the vote. Here's what it costs, and how to say something about it.
Commissioners Court meets at 9 a.m. Thursday, September 17 for the public hearing and the final vote on the county's fiscal year 2027 tax rates and its roughly $3.09 billion general fund budget.
Two things worth knowing before Thursday. Commissioners can still adopt a rate lower than the one they advanced, but they can't go higher without calling an election. And the budget has to be adopted before the new fiscal year starts October 1, so there's no version of this where it slides.

And then it's CFISD's turn. Five propositions, November 3.
The county rate is the one that lands Thursday. The district's version lands in seven weeks, and it's on a ballot you fill out yourself.
CFISD trustees voted on August 10 to put five separate propositions on the November 3 ballot. Proposition A is a voter-approval tax rate election, or VATRE, which the district says would bring in about $103 million a year. Propositions B through E make up a $1.636 billion bond covering school building work and buses, technology, a district stadium facility, and pool repairs.
If all five pass, the district projects a 9-cent increase to the maintenance and operations rate, partly offset by a projected 3-cent reduction on the debt side. CFISD has a calculator on its election page that will run your own address rather than an average.
The dates to put in your phone:
October 5 — last day to register to vote
October 19 — early voting opens
October 30 — early voting closes
November 3 — Election Day

A 24-hour golf simulator is coming to Skinner Road
Another Nine is building a private indoor golf simulator location at Cypress Village Station, near U.S. 290 and Skinner Road. The pitch is 24/7 member access, which is either very appealing or slightly alarming depending on who you live with. It's the second swing-adjacent business to land in that stretch this year, and it fits the pattern we keep noticing out here: the entertainment that's opening in Cypress is the kind you book rather than the kind you drive to.
