Happy Tuesday, Cypress! 🌲

This is the week of hoodies at drop-off and short sleeves by pickup, so if a jacket goes missing, check the lost and found. We’re not judging. Trunk-or-treat season kicks off tomorrow, a local nonprofit is handing out free Christmas trees (there’s a catch), and a big employer just filed plans off the Grand Parkway.

The less fun part: The county finally had its big license plate reader meeting. The cameras are still on. Here’s what happens next.

Have a great week, Cypress!

Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

A roofer who’ll tell you when you don’t need a new roof

Zachary Sweet played Division I baseball at Lamar, then spent five years in roofing working for other companies. What stuck with him was how much the experience depended on who showed up. Some crews chased volume, some went quiet after the estimate, and some rushed the job. So he started Sweet Brothers Roofing here in Cypress to do it the other way.

Their roof inspection is free. They check the shingles, flashing, pipe boots, vents, valleys, and gutters, then walk you through what they found. A few damaged shingles or a cracked pipe boot is a repair, not a new roof, and they’ll tell you that.

If you do need a replacement, they’re a GAF Certified contractor, which lets them offer GAF’s System Plus warranty on eligible roofs. Financing runs through Enhancify, including 0% APR options for homeowners who qualify.

The forecast is dry and sunny all week. That’s the easy week to get someone on your roof, and well before anyone climbs a ladder with a box of Christmas lights.

What’s New In Cypress 🌲

🌲 The county met about license plate readers. The cameras are still on.

Commissioners voted 3-2 Thursday to have Sheriff Ed Gonzalez lead a working group that will propose changes to the county’s Flock contracts by February 2027. County Judge Lina Hidalgo wanted every county plate reader suspended in the meantime. That didn’t happen.

The county’s own report estimates about 5,300 active Flock cameras countywide, and admits it doesn’t have a complete list. Precinct 4’s cameras stay off. Your HOA’s and MUD’s don’t. → What’s still running, and how to check your neighborhood

🌲 FedEx filed for a $54.5 million building off the Grand Parkway, with 300 jobs

FedEx filed plans Oct. 14 for a 220,466-square-foot center at 9191 W. Grand Parkway N., next to its existing hub, for packages too big or oddly shaped for a conveyor belt. Construction runs January 2027 to February 2028, and FedEx told the Houston Chronicle it plans to add 300 jobs.

Dr. Nickolas Boutris, MD

The doctor on the sideline Friday night also has an office off 290

Some of the doctors on the sidelines at Northwest Houston high school football games are volunteers. Dr. Nickolas Boutris is one of them. He gives his time covering local games, and he’s worked as a team physician at the high school, college, and pro levels.

The rest of the week, he’s a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine at Fondren Orthopedic Group’s Cypress office, 21216 Northwest Freeway, Suite 620. He treats knees, shoulders, elbows, and hips, from ACL and meniscus tears to rotator cuff injuries and fractures, for athletes and non-athletes alike. Weekend pickleball counts.

There are district games Thursday night (see Coming Up). If someone comes home limping, here’s who to call.
