Happy Tuesday, Cypress! 🌲

It's National Night Out tonight, and the forecast is finally showing signs of fall! If your neighborhood is hosting something, this is your sign to go. Grab the kids, say hi to the neighbors you haven’t met yet, and meet the deputies and firefighters who cover your area. We found one happening tonight and have the details below.

The less fun part: If you registered to vote or updated your address through the DPS this year, your paperwork may have been stuck in a statewide backlog. We broke down how to check that you're on the rolls before early voting starts Oct. 19.

Have a great week, Cypress!

Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

🐾 Adopt Spotlight

KIKI COOPER NEEDS A HOME 💙 This 15-week-old, 22-pound shepherd/hound mix was found living under a house, but you'd never guess it now. His skin is healing nicely, and he's busy discovering toys, naps, and people to love. He's doing great in his crate, already knows sit, and is working on potty training. He's decided the porch is the bathroom and the grass is strictly for playing, so that's a work in progress. He's expected to grow into a big guy, and when playtime's over, Kiki sleeps HARD. Kiki would love a home with another dog to romp and wrestle with.

Don’t forget to pick him up some treats 🐶

What’s New In Cypress 🌲

🌲 Tonight is National Night Out

Texas holds National Night Out on the first Tuesday of October, so it's tonight. There's no single big event. The Harris County Sheriff's Office runs it neighborhood by neighborhood, which means your HOA or civic club is probably hosting something. Check your neighborhood email or Facebook group.

Cypress Meadow's is one we've confirmed: 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pool Park, 19230 Cypress Flower Drive. There's food, a snow cone truck, a DJ, face painting, and balloon artists. Local firefighters and deputies plan to stop by, as long as no emergency calls pull them away.

Hosting one on your street? Reply and tell us or tag us on our social pages! We'd love to see photos.

🌲 Why the Boardwalk is glowing pink

The Boardwalk at Towne Lake is illuminated in pink each evening throughout October through a partnership with Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Cypress.

Visitors can explore breast cancer facts and resources along the waterfront through an educational walk. The October 2 kickoff has passed, but the month-long initiative continues.

🌲 Your October health to-do list, in one place

Speaking of October to-do lists, our community health report is up. Harris County Public Health is offering free clinical breast exams and free flu shots all month, and Memorial Hermann Cypress has a Saturday Mammo Day on Oct. 17 (appointments required).

We also rounded up where to give blood without leaving Cypress, a women's health morning on Oct. 24, and what the latest state data says about flu. Spoiler: it's starting to climb.

🌲 Registered through the DPS? Check that you're on the rolls

Texas DPS sat on almost a year of voter registrations and address changes before sending them to counties last month. Harris County says it has now processed more than 75,000 of those records, about 11,000 of which needed to be reviewed by hand.

If you completed your DPS transaction by Monday's deadline, you're registered for Nov. 3, per the Texas Secretary of State, even if the county hasn't caught up yet. If you show up and aren't on the list, you can cast a provisional ballot. It counts once officials confirm your DPS transaction. Early voting runs Oct. 19–30.
