25 years ago this morning, nearly 3,000 people were killed in New York, at the Pentagon, and in a field outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum estimates that about 100 million Americans are now too young to remember any of it.
Cy-Fair Fire Department marks the anniversary at 7:30 this morning at Station 11 on West Road, breakfast after, open to anyone who wants to stand there for it.
On the docket today: The county tax number came in lower than the one we flagged on Tuesday, Fiesta Mart reopened on Highway 6 after nine years, and 275 vendors take over the Berry Center tomorrow.

The county rate came in lower than proposed. The vote that counts is on September 17.
Commissioners Court voted 3-2 on Tuesday to advance a combined rate of about 67 cents per $100 of valuation, up from 62 cents, but just under the 68 cents we flagged for you. The county's budget director puts that at roughly $193 a year for an average homeowner, and Houston Public Media puts it at $198. County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Commissioner Tom Ramsey both voted no, for opposite reasons. Friday, September 18 — Precinct 4's Patriot Day ceremony, 9 to 10 a.m. at the Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center, 8440 Greenhouse Road.
Saturday, September 19 — The Tunnel to Towers 5K at John Paul Landing, activities from 7:30 a.m. Run it, walk it, volunteer, or put a team together.
