The Time Has Comeโฆ
Over the past 7 months, Cypress Digest has grown far beyond what I originally imagined โ we now get over 20,000 reads monthly.
Each week, I curate 100+ local events, community updates, deals, and stories, and the interest from both readers and local businesses has grown rapidly alongside it.
At this point, I have 70+ local businesses waiting to partner, many offering incentives and specials for readers โ which is exciting, but also means Iโm at a crossroads. I want Cypress Digest to grow thoughtfully, without turning into a wall of ads, and with more time devoted to deeper, more journalistic local coverage.
Thatโs why Iโm exploring a subscriber-supported model: the free version would continue to offer high-level community updates, while a paid version would unlock the full Cypress Digest experience:
Our in-depth, organized 100+ events guide
Consistent reader-only discounts from local businesses (This will be a requirement for businesses that advertise with us.)
Deeper spotlights on the people and places that make Cypress home
And timely text alerts for weather, closures, and important updates.
This is still being shaped โ and if I move forward, subscribers will have a direct say in whatโs included and prioritized. So before I build it, I want your input:

A Casino with a Twist in Cypressโฆ No Gambling
Cypress, I was conflicted on this one.
I donโt gamble โ but even I did a double-take when I heard a casino-style venue is planning to open right here in Cypressโฆ with no gambling involved. So whatโs the deal?
Vegas Texas Casino says itโs a practice-style casino โ meaning guests can enjoy the experience of classic casino games without wagering real money. Officials say the venue is fully compliant with all Texas gambling and sweepstakes laws and offers no gambling of any kind. According to casino officials, the Cypress location will feature:
Classic casino-style games like blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and craps
Skill-based and sweepstakes-style slot machines
20 live game tables
A full-service restaurant
An atmosphere designed for friendly competition, not high-stakes betting

Reminder, this is finals week, and school lets out on December 19th (so the 18th is the last day), and the district will resume classes on January 6th. Happy Holidays, neighbors!
