Happy Tuesday, Cypress! 🌲

Well, hello November! 🍂 Somehow we've gone from handing out Halloween candy to planning Thanksgiving dinner and thinking about Christmas lights in what feels like five minutes. Is it just us, or does this time of year always fly by?

Before we get too far into holiday mode, we've got something important happening today. It's Election Day! If you haven't made it to the polls yet, we've got a quick guide to voting locations and a breakdown of the five CFISD propositions on the ballot.

We've also got some pretty exciting things happening around town! A new IMAX experience is coming to Fry Road (complete with massage seats!), we've got an update on Jimmy Butler's coffee plans, and there's some good news from the Cy-Fair Fire Department. Plus, we're sharing where you can order Thanksgiving dinner and a few fun ways to spend your weekend.

Hope your November is off to a great start, Cypress!

Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚

What’s New In Cypress 🌲

🌲 Election Day: Polls are open until 7 p.m. Here's what to know

If you're heading to the polls today, you've got plenty of options! Harris County has more than 600 voting locations open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you can vote at any of them, according to Community Impact. If the line at your usual spot looks a little intimidating, the county's vote center finder shows other locations and live wait times.

What to bring: An accepted photo ID, such as a Texas driver's license, Texas personal ID card, Texas handgun license or U.S. passport. If you can't reasonably obtain an accepted photo ID, you may qualify to sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and show an alternative document, such as a utility bill, bank statement or voter registration certificate, per the Texas Secretary of State.

For CFISD voters: There are five propositions on the ballot, including a 12-cent tax rate election (Proposition A) and four bond propositions totaling approximately $1.63 billion (Propositions B–E). We've linked a breakdown of what each would fund below.

🌲 Good news for Cy-Fair Fire Department, plus a new station coming to Bridgeland

The Cy-Fair Fire Department has some good news to share! At an Oct. 29 meeting, Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9, the taxing entity supporting the department, received its latest audit results. The financial audit required just one adjustment and earned the highest audit opinion available, while the HR audit found no critical compliance concerns, according to Community Impact.

Next up is Station 17 in Bridgeland. The $13 million fire station, located at 21500 North Bridgeland Lake Parkway, is set to break ground Nov. 17. State filings show construction running from Nov. 26, 2026, through Nov. 25, 2027. This follows Station 15 near FM 529 and the Grand Parkway, which broke ground back in April.

One more Election Day note: Three of the five ESD 9 board seats are on today's ballot.

🌲 Skipping the Thanksgiving cooking? Here's where to order dinner in Cypress

Thanksgiving is coming up on Thursday, Nov. 26, and if you'd rather spend less time in the kitchen this year, several Cypress-area restaurants have you covered! We've put together a guide to take-home turkeys, family meals and holiday sides, complete with pricing, pickup times and ordering deadlines.

🌲 November health update: Free community expo, flu season and more

Looking for a free family outing with some health and wellness resources mixed in? The CFISD Health Expo returns Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road).

Admission is free, with plenty happening throughout the day, including flu shots, a blood drive, Fire Fest activities with the Cy-Fair Fire Department, a Life Flight experience and health and wellness booths.

Meanwhile, flu activity is picking up across Texas. Statewide flu test positivity climbed from 9.43% to 11.84% during the week of Oct. 18–24. These are statewide lab results, not Cypress-specific infection rates. Harris County Public Health also offers free flu shots through its clinics and mobile events.

Our November health report also covers Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital's No. 3 national ranking among complex care medical centers, plus features on a local allergist and a Towne Lake family doctor.
