Happy Tuesday, Cypress! 🌲
Yesterday was a big day for property taxes, twice over. The Texas AG's office barred another 110+ Texas cities from raising property taxes (roughly 240 flagged since May under SB 1851). Naturally, I went looking for Cypress on the list, then remembered we're not actually a city; we're unincorporated, so our taxes run through Harris County, CFISD, and our MUD districts instead.
Which matters, because Harris County Commissioners Court also met yesterday to work through the FY2027 budget and tax rates. Here's the part worth sitting with: SB 1851 targets cities. Counties aren't named in it. So while 240 Texas cities just had the brakes put on, the entity setting a big chunk of our tax bill isn't under that same restriction. 🤔
Time will tell how this shakes out, but with a CFISD tax-rate election also on the November ballot, this one's worth watching. Here's the full breakdown if you want it.
Have a great week Cypress!
Cheers! - Ashlyn 🌲💚
