Four local events, three more within Houston and did someone say Pickleball?

It’s the last day of February and we have a ton to look forward to as the spring approaches. Great food, fun events and more right here in Cypress.

Welcome Back to Cypress Digest! Your Weekly Guide to Local News, Events & Exclusive Deals in Cypress, TX.

In The News

  • Lifetime Health Club is (finally) opening up indoor pickleball courts on March 14th! After a few summers of high heat and bad weather ruining the popular pickleball sport, Lifetime is enclosing half of their basketball facilities to make room for some indoor pickleball courts. Construction will be from February 24 to March 10th.

  • Measles is on the rise. While I don’t normally share much in terms of negativity, this one needed a nod. According to Texas Children’s Hospital, Measles is a highly contagious and dangerous virus for babies and children. Symptoms can vary but can include a high fever, cough, runny nose, red/watery eyes, and a rash. For more information, check their resource here.

Events Roundup

We’ve got four great options for the locals to choose from and they range from adults only to family friendly.

Free Concert at The Barn at The Frio in Cypress March 1st

Everyone loves a good time but it’s much better when it’s FREE. Saturday, March 1st, The Barn will be hosting a fun-filled evening featuring the ultimate pop, rock, and dance cover band. (Think the 80’s style up till today.) Doors open at 6 pm/ music around 8 pm where you can purchase from a full bar, order some great food, and enjoy this amazing weather. You can reserve your table here if you have a large group, otherwise we’ll see you there! (Sorry kids, this is 21 and up only).

AR Workshop does Crafting right

Creative crafters will love the AR Workshop’s upcoming events. Here’s what’s on the docket: Chunky Knit Blankets Today Feb 28 @ 6 pm and three events tomorrow March 1st; Crafternoon, Chunky knit Blankets and Hat burning. You can find more info here.

Michael’s Craft Store at Cypress Town Center

Held on March 2nd from 2 pm to 4 pm. Shoppers can make a Spring Hoop Butterfly Wreath at the Sunday Makebreak for $10. Details can be found here.

CFISD Mobile Library is Making Stops on March 1st

Talk about a great concept. A school bus that brings education to you. The mobile library is a service program designed to encourage reading and literacy within the district. Students can check out library books, take advantage of the free options, and even get a snack (win)!

From their Facebook page: The CFISD Mobile Library will be at the Yaupon Ranch pool and Chimney Hill Community Center tomorrow, March 1. Due to spring break, this will be the last run until March 22!

Events farther away but worth considering

In Cypress, we have the rare advantage of being close enough to several popular destinations where there is always something happening. I’d feel remiss if I didn’t at least offer to tell you more and let you make a decision of whether the drive outside of Cy-Fair was worth it.

  1. The Houston Zoo: We are big fans of the zoo, but during this time of year, a lot is happening, including excellent weather. And what comes with it? The animals are more social and active. I would highly suggest taking advantage before the triple-digit heat waves start coming through. Plus, be sure to check out their discounts to see if you qualify before purchasing tickets at full price.

  2. Houston Museum of Natural Science: The last chance to see the Shark exhibit is March 16, and currently a parade-sized inflatable shark is hanging on the outside of the building.

  3. The BBQ Cookoff at NRG: Not that this is any surprise but the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officially kicked off this week and in grand Texas fashion, BBQ is always a hit. Tickets get you access to the gate, the cook-off, and the carnival.
