Can we just talk about how I sneezed and it went from January to May… 😅

In The News

Cy-Fair High School Senior Takes Gold

What an extreme honor. Cy-Fair Senior Eddie P took the gold in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and now ranks as the Number 1 Jiu-Jitsu Athlete in the U.S. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the skill it takes to master this style of martial arts, it’s years of perseverance, up-skilling and coming back again and again after you fail. Always a great moment when we can celebrate one of our own achieving something incredible.

Starbucks at Houston Premium Outlets is getting a Facelift

According to project filings, The high traffic Starbucks will be receiving Major Renovations from late May to Late June. Over $250,000 in upgrades. But what gets me is the size. Even with all the money they are putting in, the filing clearly states that the occupancy type will remain the same, in other words — it will still be small.

Just in time for Summer— Pickleball. A lot of it.

If you feel like courts are popping up all over Cypress, you’re not wrong. Lifetime Fitness just enclosed half their basketball facilities to make room for indoor courts, The Amira neighborhood added new courts a year ago, and Bridgeland offers facilities at Lakeland Village.

Now two more major facilities have been announced! Cypress is about to be The Pinnacle of Pickleball.

  1. Pickle Point Cypress will arrive Mid May. Complete with 11 courts, three cushion courts (whatever that means, sounds fancy), and 2 hangout areas. You can read the full write-up here.

  2. The Picklr is set to be here sometime in late summer. They offer 6 courts, drop in play, locker rooms and (get this) AI coaching. [You can see more here.]

I’m not a huge Pickle ball player but if you are, I would definitely look into these two places BEFORE they open, since they are currently offering Founding Memberships. Pay ahead and lock in a lower rate before they open to the public.

The results are in…. 2 years later

Want to see how your school performed in the rankings? There’s an online tool for that! After a small (cough cough) legal issue, The TEA now fully discloses ratings for the 2022-2023 year. [You can search here.]

I poked around with the tools, resources and other interesting insights it provides here’s a few features I personally appreciated:

  • A comparison tool. Basically you can compare other districts in Texas (districts, not schools).

  • Demographics. I was able to see the percentages of students and teachers by ethnicity/race, economically disadvantages, Attendance rates, and postsecondary outcomes. There’s a ton you could unpack here.

  • Staff info: This included how many years of experience, avg. salary, and number of full time teachers.

Did you know? Cypress is home to one of the largest school districts in Texas — Cy-Fair ISD, serving over 118,000 students! That’s more than the population of some surrounding towns.

Cypress Digest 🌲Free Resource List

I’ll be adding to this as I continue to create new free resources for Cypress Digest Subscribers.

  2. A short list of all your neighborhood’s favorite businesses and service providers (Over 200 and counting). Check it out here!

  3. NEW: Lawn Maintenance Cheat Sheet. This includes the product(s) and schedule we’ve used when we knew nothing at all. Read it here!

  4. Don’t forget Tiff’s Treats are offering two deals for the month of April

Use code: APRIL13 to get a dozen cookies for $13.
