“Healthy pet food you CAN afford!”
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Teresa, the heart behind Purrs N Barks Pet Market, right here in Cypress! 🐾
Teresa has been a proud local business owner for over 16 years—and it shows. A passionate animal advocate and community supporter, she’s built a pet market that’s as thoughtful as it is charming. SH-99 Might Be Getting an Upgrade Soon. 🚧
If you were to hop onto 99 after the Premium Outlets from 290 heading W, you would coast on two lanes through the Bridgeland community and venture into Katy. Well, that 15-mile segment might be expanding from 2 lanes to 3 (each way) shortly. TXDOT is holding a meeting on Aug 7th to discuss their plans on this expansion, and it’s open to the community if you’d like to go hear the plans and ask questions.
How Long Would This Take? Great question, and from my experience, expansions like these can take at least two years, maybe more. (It’s not patching a pothole.)Keep in mind this bridge sees a lot of traffic, and even small bridges take a considerable amount of time to build/expand— I mean that traffic has to go somewhere in the meantime. And during high traffic times, TXDOT tries not to shut down bridges like these. That’s why you’ll see a lot of weekend or nighttime road work. Which in turn increases the time to completion.
Is this expansion necessary? I think so, and the proactivity here is what I’m liking. Bridgeland is nowhere near done being built, and the same goes for that section of Katy out past the new Target on 99. That traffic will congest those existing lanes quickly over the next few years. With many TXDOT projects, there’s a lot of hurry up and wait. Identifying a problem before it becomes a problem may prove to be a big asset to the upcoming Bridgeland build-out on the west side of 99 (Prairieland Village, etc.)
