Welcome Back to Cypress Digest! Your Weekly Guide to News, Events & Exclusive Deals in Cypress, TX.
Happy Fourth of July friends! I hope everyone is having a fun day and eating all the good treats (because calories don’t count, right!?). But quick reminder, if you’re a pet owner and will be celebrating with fireworks— what you love and your pet loves are not the same (sometimes). Check out this article on the topic.
Also did anyone catch that I sent this at 4:44AM on July 4th? 😅

Business Spotlight🌲
“Healthy pet food you CAN afford!”
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Teresa, the heart behind Purrs N Barks Pet Market, right here in Cypress! 🐾
Teresa has been a proud local business owner for over 16 years—and it shows. A passionate animal advocate and community supporter, she’s built a pet market that’s as thoughtful as it is charming. From her very own line of gourmet pet treats to a carefully curated selection of all-natural, toxin-free products, her shop is designed to keep your furry friends happy, healthy, and wagging.
Be sure to check out her online store for easy ordering, and don’t forget to ask about her monthly rotating specials—there’s always something new to treat your pets (and your wallet)!

Texas Legislative Wins & How They Effect Cypress
I need to start doing short videos of these since they are so important (and interesting) for the community. Gov. Abbot has signed over 300 bills into law from the 89th regular legislative session. Many of these are in effort to improve the Texas communities.
Free College Application Week: Senate Bill 2231 makes applying to state universities free during the second week of October.
Veteran Job Access: House Bill 5629 removes licensing barriers and waives fees for veterans and their spouses.
School Safety Enhancements: House Bill 33 strengthens emergency planning and safety audits in public schools.
Support for Homeschooling: House Bill 2674 ensures the state won’t impose regulatory burdens on homeschool programs.
Homeownership and Property Tax Relief
We have a huge population of homeowners here in Cypress AND a ton of you have large property taxes(some over 3.1%). There’s an upcoming election in November that will need our votes to bring them to fruition.
The Independent School District homestead exemptions was raised from $100,00 to $140,000 (avg. savings of about $484 annually) for 5.7 million homeowners.
Senior & Disability Relief gives Texans over 65 and those that are disabled, an additional $60,000 exemption, this brings their total to $200,000 and saves them about $908 per year.
The business personal property (BPP) tax exemption jumped from $2,500 to $125,000 (sheesh), this could save small businesses and average of $2,500 annually.
Voter Approval is needed to push these into effect. These are both apart of a $10 billion tax relief package that will be votes on in November 2025 in the constitutional Amendment election. [Read more here.]
