🎄A Few of My Favorite Things 🎄

Welcome to the Christmas Edition of Cypress Digest. Instead of the typical updates on business openings and things happening, I wanted to share some of my favorite things here in Cypress that continue to keep me coming back.

These are those local staples that I will drive out of the way for, even when there are other (albeit closer) options to choose from. Also, let me note that none of these are sponsored; I just can’t keep away.

My favorite restaurant: Alicia’s Mexican Grill

You can throw a rock and hit 5 different Mexican restaurants in this part of the city alone, but I have yet to be able to replicate Alicia’s. When we were new parents, one of the first places we took our then 1-year-old son was Alicia’s. And we had the best experience. We had the most fantastic waiter (Javier), who has since been the only waiter we request. He catered to us on a personal level with things that defiantley were’nt required as a waiter, like noticing (and bringing us) extra milk, child-friendly foods, and just taking the edge off an already tricky situation of going out to dinner with a screen-free baby.

Since then, we’ve gone back at least 100 times. The food AND the service never waver. They have specials and happy hours every week, plus you have to try one of their tequila tastings. A 10/10 great experience consistently. [Learn More Here.]

My favorite park: Deputy Darren Goforth Park

This has been a staple in our family since we first moved to Cypress. It’s currently undergoing a bit of construction for new drainage (as far as I can tell). But normally, the park itself consists of a massive lake where you can fish and a paved trail circling the water that is about 2 miles long (although it says 3.3, I’m sure there was a sign that states 2 is the main circle). Then there is a good-sized playground with plenty of seating and tables. Finally, I haven’t tried it personally, but it looks like a blast, the dog park. They have this section of the park completely enclosed, but with a sizable access to the water for those pups who like to take a dip. The best part of the dog park is the shower stalls. These are completely free and lined up at the entrance, so you can rinse your pup off before you make the trek back home. [Learn More Here].

My favorite coffee spot: Summer Moon

I am not a coffee snob, but my husband is, so we have tried several spots from the family-owned to the Starbucks chains, and the one we cannot skip over is Summer Moon. Now, be warned, this is a bit different than other coffee shops you’re used to, but bear with me. “Moon milk” is their signature sweet cream, and it is the chef’s kiss, as best as I can describe it. And your coffee strength is based on how much ‘moon’ you add. For example, I get a Half Summer Moon—> Translation; I get a hot coffee with ½ added moon milk. All I’m saying is take a chance, try a different style of coffee shop [Learn More Here]

My favorite new opening this year: Books-A-Million

We have had an influx of new businesses, and yes, I do know this is biased of me… but there are so few book stores (Seriously, doesn’t anyone remember Hastings stores), and I just loved this addition to Cypress. It replaced the old Party City location, and walking inside just smells like paper back books (you know the smell). Plus, they have this great program that gives you exclusive perks and discounts to add to the other 20 unread books on your shelf already. [Learn More Here]
