Tropical Storm Edouard: What it means for Cypress
As of 9:00pm Monday night (as we are writing this), the storm system in the Gulf was upgraded to Tropical Storm Edouard. It's forecast to come ashore Tuesday afternoon between Galveston and Port Arthur.
For Cypress, this is a rain and flooding event. We are not in the tropical storm warning — that covers the coast from Port Bolivar east.
Harris County is under a Flood Watch.
Rain: 2 to 5 inches near I-45, with isolated 6 to 9 inches east of it. Cypress sits west of that line, so we should be on the lower end.
Timing: heaviest Tuesday through the evening, with more Wednesday.
Flash flooding is the real risk. Rain rates could top 3 to 4 inches an hour, enough to cover a road in minutes. Leave early. If a street is flooded, don’t risk it.
Schools: Several Houston-area districts closed for Tuesday. As of Monday night, CFISD said they will be business as usual. This could all change overnight, so make sure your check cfisd.net and their social accounts before you leave.
